A Taste of Barley & Vine

In the quaint downtown strip of Hertford, sits a unique shop called Barley & Vine. At first glance, casual window shoppers will recognize it as a wine shop. Fairly priced reds and whites beckon from the shelves. But what the locals know, is just how much of a treasure this specialty shop is.

Not only can you find anything from Moscato to Cabernet Sauvignon, but you can also scoop up dinner or party fare from the variety of pastas, sauces, olives, meats, cheeses, and crackers available. While you're shopping, go ahead and schedule a pairings party with shop owner, Lisa Verrastro. Private gatherings offer tapas or a light dinner and the wines that pair well with the delectable food.

Be sure to pay Lisa a visit before the Christmas season ends. Holiday wines, specialty chocolates, and gift baskets will all be in abundant supply. What would be a better gift for the foodie or wine lover in your life than a beautiful basket stocked with olive oil, pasta, sauces, and a bottle of their favorite?

The most unexpected part of Barley & Vine is kayak rental. Yes, you read that right, kayak rental! Located near the river, patrons can rent a double or single kayak and have it delivered to the dock. Go one step further and plan a picnic on the Perquimans River. A non-alcoholic lunch can be prepared by Lisa with meats, cheeses, and crackers to enjoy on the peaceful water.

Beers are on tap, wine is available by glass or bottle, and good company is waiting at Barley & Vine!
