Fall is an absolute gem in this part of North Carolina! Emerald colors turn to ruby and gold, and yet the temperatures are still mild enough to enjoy the river most days. There is much to keep you busy celebrating the season, so we've compiled a list of October fun to get you started!
1 - National Night Out - See ya later August, NNO is now on the October schedule! We are so excited that this loved community event has been moved to a cooler time. On October 3rd from 5 PM to 9 PM, the community will be hanging out at Perquimans County Recreation Center with first responders! Food, vendors, activities, and tons of kids fun make it an event that kids especially look forward to every year. What's new on this year's schedule? A haunted walk!! The PQ recreation center boasts of several beautiful, wooded walking trails that will be decked out for spooky season. Small child friendly from 6-7 PM, and then definitely haunted from 7-9 PM.
2 - Crafting a Pumpkin Succulent Centerpiece - Manzer's Nursery in Winfall is holding a must-not-miss workshop on two separate days: October 3rd and 7th from 1-3 PM. They will walk you through each step of putting together a beautiful Fall centerpiece with pumpkins, succulents, and other Fall accents. The cost is $20, and registration is requested. 3 - Barley & Vine's Caramel Apple Class - On October 18th, adults can make plans to be at Barley & Vine, located in historic downtown Hertford, for caramel apple crafting. Discover which reds and whites pair well with apples while you make your very own! The cost of $40 covers all supplies. Call 714-724-2361 for more information!
4 - Ghost Walk - The local Masonic Lodge hosts its second annual Ghost Walk in downtown Hertford on two nights, October 20th and 21st, 6:30 PM until. Begin at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and stroll the route to several sites downtown. At each location, you will find yourself accompanied by a long-gone leader of Hertford and the greater community to regale you with their adventures. The cost is $10 and tickets may be purchased at Perquimans Chamber, Tommy's Pizza, Larry's Drive-In, AND on the night of at Holy Trinity.
5 - Trunk or Treat - The Perquimans Chamber of Commerce will turn Church Street into a trick-or-treaters delight! Bring the little ones to downtown Hertford on Friday, October 27th from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Businesses and trunks will be ready to celebrate the season by passing out goodies. Costumes encouraged! 6 - Belvidere Day - This annual event has been inviting folks to Belvidere for over a decade! Head to the Belvidere Ruritan Community Building on October 28th for a full day of vendors, food, stage entertainment, and family fun. From 9 AM to 4 PM, the area will draw thousands for genuine small town Fall fun complete with cake bake-off, tractor show, hay rides, and craft vendors.
